Distinguish between Staka and roof access hatches of other suppliers

It is very easy to compare different suppliers based on the most essential aspects you should look out for when purchasing a roof access hatch. We will explain in which areas Staka has made choices that differ from those made by other manufacturers in the market, and why this can deliver benefits to users of Staka roof access hatches.

Materials used in roof access hatches

Let's first look at the materials used. The only materials suitable for use in professional roof access hatches are stainless steel and aluminium, as plastic roof access hatches are too weak and steel designs require too much maintenance. Staka has chosen high-quality, sustainable stainless steel and used this to create an extremely strong roof access hatch with a high load-bearing capacity, yet with a very light construction. These properties are reflected in the construction strength and the unequalled load-bearing capacity of the cover, which can hold 4,800 kg/m2.

Insulation in roof access hatches

A second important component is the insulation material used in the roof access hatch. Whereas certain manufacturers primarily focus on the price, Staka has turned its attention to the highest thermal insulation value. This means we can offer roof access hatches with an R-value of 3.81 (m2K/W) in the cover. The higher the R-value, the better the thermal insulation. The U-value is the precise opposite of this. Good thermal insulation is important in ensuring a pleasant indoor climate. A poor insulation value causes the indoor temperature to significantly rise in summer and dramatically cool in winter, as the warm air from inside escapes.

Wind and waterproofness of roof access hatches

Staka has chosen a high-quality sealing between the hinged cover and the upstand. This is pressed in evenly when closed, ensuring a wind and watertight closure. These qualities are indicated by the KOMO Assessment certification according to which Staka roof access hatches are supplied. Only two manufacturers of roof access hatches are KOMO Assessment certified.

Closing mechanism and lock

In terms of closing mechanisms, Staka has always opted for a multi-point lock. As the roof access hatch is located on a flat roof, burglars who manage to access the roof can go about their business unnoticed. This is why Staka has opted for a two-point closure equipped with a ‘euro cylinder’ lock. The closure is also invisible from the outer side in order to prevent vandalism.

Safe roof access

Of course, one of the most important aspects when creating a roof access is to ensure that users can use it safely each and every time. As the user of the roof access hatch (with the ladder or stairs underneath) is working at a height, there is an increased risk of falling.

Staka has equipped its roof access hatches with several handles and an adjustable support on the inside of cover, so that users have a solid hold during the entire process of going up and coming back through the roof access hatch. Many suppliers have not equipped their products with similar equipment.

Another unique benefit offered by a Staka roof access hatch in terms of safety and ease of installation is the extra step with anti-slip covering that Staka supplies with a roof access hatch with extension ladder. This step can be easily mounted in the upstand of the roof access hatch using the supplied anchoring material and the predrilled holes. As it is hooked onto the step, the ladder remains stable. The user can then safely step from the step over the upstand.
