On the site of the former King Willem II barracks in Tilburg’s Stappegoor district, a unique new residential quarter is taking shape: Willemskwartier. This historic terrain—closed to the public for many years—is being transformed into an accessible, sustainable living environment. Van Wijnen Rosmalen BV is developing 84 houses and 31 apartments, with architects preserving and integrating the character of the old barracks into the neighbourhood’s design.
The homes in Willemskwartier are built for sustainability, featuring ground-source heat exchangers, individual heat pumps and photovoltaic panels. These installations, combined with enhanced insulation and airtightness, prepare the quarter for an energy-efficient future.
For this project, Van Wijnen selected a combination of roof access hatch and scissor stair from Staka, delivering a turnkey solution for safe and convenient roof access. Staka supplied the following items:
By integrating Staka’s DL-Series Roof Access Hatches taxonomy with robust scissor stairs, the project ensures reliable, easy-to-use access to every roof—fully aligned with Staka’s standards for quality, durability and seamless installation.
The DL-Series roof access hatches deliver a functional solution for a wide range of applications. They provide safe access to roofs for maintenance of solar panels and other installations. Thanks to their high-grade stainless-steel construction, the hatches contribute to the homes’ sustainable credentials. The integrated scissor stair enables quick, effortless access with a single, simple movement, and folds away neatly after use—resulting in a flush, clean-finished ceiling. This maximises space savings and ensures a tidy interior finish.
Choosing Staka underlines the project’s emphasis on quality and durability. Staka’s KOMO-certified hatch units, backed by a 10-year warranty, deliver long-term peace of mind and install easily thanks to their unique mounting flange.

Disclaimer: The project reference video shows the gas-spring lock mechanism (identified by its red handle) positioned away from the entry/exit side of the hatch. Staka does not recommend this assembly. For optimal safety and operability, always fit the hatch with the gas-spring lock mechanism and handrail on the entry/exit side (both components are reversible). Customers are strongly advised to follow the official installation instructions.
